A friend notes our Washington trip was not government funded and asserts we paid our own way except for one meal by Congressman Graham Purcell. We covered plane, hotel, meals, and local transport in his station wagons. We invite any sponsor for another visit.
Bennie Trammell, a Bridgeport native with long standing cafe business ties, receives authorization to announce his candidacy for mayor of Bridgeport.
Candidates who have filed for city offices since our last press are Billie F. Green Burl Doty and Mrs W E Stickler for council posts. One other candidate has filed for City Judge and Tax Assessor Collector He is Guy Brown Jr
Wise County Farm Bureau directors and their spouses attended a luncheon at Lester's Tuesday March 10. E F Hornback gave the invocation and guests were introduced including state director T J Richards and area fieldman Melvin Dansby. Sharon Freeman spoke on the TFB citizenship seminar she attended as a sponsored Wise County student.
Bridwell notes council actions last week stirred controversy and may have violated general city laws in a general law city. He cites mayoral executive power and illegal salary changes, urging streamlining and possible city manager form after population hits 5000.
Judy Lynn Stokes 16 of 807 17th Street suffered a broken nose and a facial cut when her 1957 Chevrolet rear collided with Mrs. Jesker McCain’s 1955 Chevrolet on Cates Street near 15th Street at 5 15 p m. Damage totaled about 800 dollars. Stokes was treated at Bridgeport Hospital and released. McCain also treated and released.
T C Davis announces bid for re election as City Secretary-Treasurer, stating five years of service and intent to continue efficient, courteous work. Miss Pat Molloy of Fort Worth visited her parents over the weekend.
The Bridgeport Elementary Basketball Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday March 13 and 14. Teams include Rhome Newark Justin Nocona and Bridgeport. Four Friday games start 7:00 p.m. in the High School Gym. Saturday schedule begins 8:00 a.m. with consolation games at 7:00 and finals at 8:00. Admission 25 cents for adults 15 cents for students.
The Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce and County Tax Office arrange to sell 1964 automobile license plates in Bridgeport during March 16 to 21. Tax Collector M. D. Ball will be in the Old Lions Club Building from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday. April 1 is the deadline for new tags and residents are urged to purchase during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Mayon Dethloff and Sherry of Bowie visited local residents on Sunday.
