Charles Wilhite defeats long time judge John A. Winder for Wise County judge in a 1740 to 1334 runoff. County Treasurer Charlie Lambert reelected with 1797 votes, over H. C. Russell 1221. Total runoff votes: 3074, down from the May 4 primary.
The Wise County Roughneck Club held its annual scholarship banquet on May 25 at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch near Runaway Bay. About 90 attendees included Roughnecks, guests, oil industry reps, scholarship recipients and parents, plus school district officials from the area.
Bridgeport hosts the Wise County Arts and Crafts Festival with crowds, car lined streets, and a carnival mood. Artists such as David Brownlow and Renne Hughes attend alongside local craftsmen. Blue ribbon winners span professional and amateur divisions with cash prizes from $10 to $50 and a note that a full winner list will appear next week.
