Bridgeport Centennial Day Opens with Ribbon Cutting and Parade
Bridgeport begins its centennial celebration with a 10 a.m. ribbon cutting at City Hall Hospitality Center. Other events include an 11 a.m. rocking chair marathon, a 3:30 p.m. downtown parade, a 5:30 p.m. barbecue, an 8:30 p.m. rodeo and dance, plus a pageant prologue on July 25 and a time capsule ceremony on July 29. Souvenir programs cost 35 cents and advance coupons have sold enough to fill the stadium.

Evans Killed In Accident At Sun Oil Field
Twenty one year old Bill Jack Evans son of Wanda Evans and the late Jack Evans died after a fall from an oil derrick in Sun Oil field near Midfield Bay City. Matagorda County Justice D B Hinton ruled the death accidental and said Evans was working for Chapman Engineering when the lift failed. He died on arrival at Matagorda County Memorial Hospital at 1 20 p m with several men witnessing the fall.
