Bridgeport volunteers inch toward a $20 000 fire hall goal with about $1500 still needed. Donations from locals and firms flowed this week as ice chest sales netted $84 Monday. Door to door sales are set for Thursday 7 30 to 9 30 p m and trash bags will also be sold.

Three children, Deborah Maddux five Glenn Maddux seven and Cecil Mayes Jr four died Saturday when an oil tank near Lake Bridgeport exploded after fireworks reportedly set off in a tank access hole. The center tank was nearly empty. grass fire burned 10 to 15 acres. Firemen fought the blaze with two trucks and an emergency vehicle. funeral services were held in First Baptist Church.
