Bridgeport Volunteer Firemen Near Hall Fund Goal

Bridgeport volunteers inch toward a $20 000 fire hall goal with about $1500 still needed. Donations from locals and firms flowed this week as ice chest sales netted $84 Monday. Door to door sales are set for Thursday 7 30 to 9 30 p m and trash bags will also be sold.

Three Children Die In Oil Tank Blast

Three children, Deborah Maddux five Glenn Maddux seven and Cecil Mayes Jr four died Saturday when an oil tank near Lake Bridgeport exploded after fireworks reportedly set off in a tank access hole. The center tank was nearly empty. grass fire burned 10 to 15 acres. Firemen fought the blaze with two trucks and an emergency vehicle. funeral services were held in First Baptist Church.

Photographer Fred Thomas Hospitalized After Heart Attack

Photographer Fred Thomas of Runaway Bay is hospitalized at Bridgeport Hospital in stable condition after an apparent heart attack. He has worked as a professional photographer for thirty years and is employed by Anadarco Oil of Jacksboro. Some of his photos have appeared in the Index.

Western Day Parade Opens Bridgeport Rodeo Activities

About 20 25 entries expected for the Rodeo Parade next Thursday July 20 sponsored by the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce Earl German float coordinator said Wednesday the parade will feature the Western Day theme with local floats and participants driving through downtown Bridgeport.

Sportswear Firm Seeks Bridgeport Location

A leading ladies sportswear maker, based in Dallas, plans a Bridgeport branch and could hire 80 to 100 workers once arrangements are finalized. About 150 applications have come in via the Chamber of Commerce labor survey, with more expected.

Little League Uniform Return Details and Awards

Uniforms to be returned at Lions Hall on Monday or Tuesday between 6 and 7 pm with a $2 deposit refundable. Individual awards will be presented to all Little League players. Parade and rodeo set to start July 20 in Bridgeport

July 20 marks the opening of Bridgeport Riding Club Rodeo with shows on Thursday Friday and Saturday nights at the Bridgeport Riding Club Arena. A downtown parade on Thursday at 5 pm, rodeo queen crowning, calf roping bull dogging bareback riding barrel racing and calf scramble are on the schedule. Admission is 1.50 for adults 0.75 for children.
