Chamber of Commerce chairman Robert Meek organized eleven gifts for the July 4th event, surpassing the plan of six or seven. The presentation misstep occurred with the donor of a $74.95 Wizard Power Lawn Mower, donated by Clint Muhlinghouse and wife of Bridgeport's Western Auto Store, who found the mix up humorous.

Emco Drilling Co marked its 1000th well spud last Thursday July 4 near Bridgeport at the O S Groves 1 site. Ellison Miles praised crews for drilling about six million feet and $20 million gross revenue with $7 million in wages, while local officials lauded the workers and presented gifts to several crew members.
