Wise County records three traffic fatalities during the July 4th period. A 51-year-old Smithfield man died near Newark after a rear collision involving a Caldwell pickup. Two Bridgeport Women Charged With Child Abuse

Bond set at 25 000 dollars for Rose Halfhill 21 and Alberta Briggs 39 charged with injuring a child under 14 after allegedly placing a six year old girl in a hot bath and beating her. Child hospitalized in Dallas improving. Briggs is aunt and Halfhill was staying with the family. The incident occurred on Bridgeport's west side around 3 PM. Both women remained in Wise County Jail.

The Bridgeport Riding Club holds a three night rodeo Thursday through Saturday with events including bareback and saddle bronc riding calf roping bull riding steer wrestling and girls barrel racing.
