Wise County imposes 90 day burn ban and fines
Wise County commissioners unanimously enacted a burn ban during a Monday night session on June 27. The ban lasts 90 days unless rainfall lowers the drought index below 500, with an index of 504 recorded on Sunday. Outside burning is prohibited with fines up to 2000 per incident, allow exceptions for household garbage, natural oil and gas exploration, crop harvesting, outdoor grills, and firefighter training.
