Runaway Bay celebrated its grand opening weekend with a golf tournament and a dinner dance on Saturday and a water show by the Dallas Ski Club on Sunday. The Lake Bridgeport development by Lake Bridgeport Properties promises a complete lake community 37 miles west of Denton with 6500 homes, underground utilities, and 24 hour security. The Inn at Runaway Bay opened its first phase with 100 rooms and private balconies overlooking Lake Bridgeport, offering guests access to an Olympic golf course.
Runaway Bay promotes lakefront living with sandy beaches and a private yacht club. Homesites start at 2400 with ten year bank financing, no assessments, and no closing costs. Lakeside condominiums, some already sold, offer private pools. Lake Bridgeport Properties aims for high quality, full amenities, and extensive land to control costs and ensure value.
Emco Drilling will start drilling its 1000th well Thursday in Wise County near Bridgeport with an Independence Day ceremony and barbecue. local merchants donate prizes to workers. committee members include Robert Meek Alfred Greer and Dr D C Sipes. The project marks six million feet of drilled holes about 1200 miles and a $20 million gross revenue with $7 million in wages boosting the area.
The long-talked-about strike by Union employees of George Mitchell and Associates began Tuesday morning July 2. Pickets lined 16th Street in Bridgeport while mimeographed leaflets outlined grievances including salary, reduced hours, and alleged unfair labor practices in bad faith.
Plans approved for a municipal airport at Runaway Bay include a new clubhouse and Olympic pool. Preparations begin for a health spa tennis courts and a Gun Club with skeet trap rifle and pistol ranges. Lease-hold requests are evaluated for a shopping center with future plans for a race track medical clinic post office churches and schools.
