Telephone Campaign To Raise Eight Thousand For New Fire Hall
Volunteers mobilize an intense telephone drive at City Hall to raise 8 000 for a new fire hall. Wives of firemen will operate the switchboard Friday evening and Saturday, led by Mrs. Billy R. Texas School Financing Subject Ray Heads Advisory Conference
Bridgeport officials joined Texas school superintendents in Austin for the Texas School Administrators Advisory Conference after a federal ruling late in 1950s requiring Texas to reform local tax based school financing. Bridgeport Superintendent A E Greer cited that local funding covers about 50 percent of educational costs and that the district’s local share runs near 70 30 in contrast with state contributions. The meeting discussed restructuring ad valorem taxes and local revenue use to ensure equal educational opportunities across districts.
