Bridgeport High School will screen the film One-half Million Teenagers in the auditorium at 7 30 p m January 23 for adults first and then for students with parental approval. The State Board of Education approved the film about venereal disease among youth and it is provided by the State Health Department. The school nurse said parental involvement may be skipped if needed and that early attendance is encouraged. Everyone interested may attend at no charge.
A public meeting Thursday at 7 30 p m at the Minute Coffee Shop will decide key points for Bridgeport s proposed centennial celebration. Members of the Chamber of Commerce and Rogers Company officials discussed the event at a December meeting.
A hearing today in Austin will decide if a savings and loan office will open in Bridgeport with Olney Savings & Loan and Decatur Savings & Loan applying for branches near Tenth and Halsell Streets and near Tenth and Stevens. The consolidated hearing starts at 9 30 a.m. at the Savings & Loan Department of Texas.
Sharon Costner and Steve Mosley of Bridgeport Junior High earned the Creative Arts Honor Award from the National Poetry Press Art Division in Los Angeles. Their sketches will appear in the Anthropogy of High School Art. selected for originality. Sharon and Steve are children of local families. their art teacher is Mrs. Betty Vaught.
Bridgeport born Captain Clint Peoples, senior Ranger Captain and former Company F commander in Waco, joined the Texas Rangers in 1946 after serving in the Highway Patrol since 1941. His headquarters moved from Austin to Waco in 1957, with longtime colleague W P Baten based in Lubbock and daughter-in-law Mrs Paul Geiser in Bridgeport.
