City Council votes to call a bond election for a $50,000 park improvement bond. Funds would finance a municipal swimming pool. A notice of election appears on another page of the Index this week.

The Jimmy Lloyd Carpenter home south of Bridgeport was destroyed by fire Wednesday.
Carpenter Lumber Company reported burglars broke in Wednesday night stealing about 15 dollars from a cash register and shell stock worth hundreds. The thieves damaged a safe and drawers but failed to open the office safe. Nearby a fire destroyed a new brick home ten miles south of Bridgeport injuring Sharon Deaton and gravely injuring several others. The Bridgeport Fire Department could not save the home. insurance was inadequate for furniture and household items. Deaton and others were treated at the hospital for injuries including a broken leg and a sprained ankle with surgery and casts applied.
