The Chico Chamber of Commerce hosted the first political forum of the year on February 8. Republican and Democrat candidates introduced themselves for the March primary, with three minutes each to outline goals. Candidates discussed courts, budgets, road repairs, and responses to audience questions.

Bridgeport Education Foundation Banquet Set for Saturday
The Bridgeport ISD Education Foundation will host its annual banquet Saturday night February 18 in the Bridgeport High School commons starting at 6 30 pm. About 300 attendees are expected for the fund raiser with silent bucket and live auctions conducted by Brent Singleton. Proceeds fund classroom programs and scholarships. The BEF has awarded over 108 thousand dollars in grants and 18 thousand in scholarships since 2001. The jazz band will play 6 30 to 7 15 pm and meals begin at 7 pm. Contributions may be made by calling Richard O Hara at 940 683 5124.

Fiber-cut disrupts Wise County 911 service
A fiber-optic line south of Wise County cut on Monday February 6 shut down all incoming and outgoing calls to the 911 system affecting Bridgeport and Decatur and part of the morning. The Sheriff’s Office issued an alert around 10 a.m. that emergency services were disabled. Sprint reported the outage began around 10 50 a.m. and was fully restored by 3 p.m. with priority on reestablishing service for emergency lines.

City Receives Grants Through Bridgeport Officials
At last week's meeting City Administrator Van James outlined grants received this year totaling 3.01 million dollars with 1.21 million to city departments and 1.81 million matched by the city. Funds support public works airport housing police library parks and recreation with TPW grants statewide and Bridgeport receiving the sole indoor grant.

Ashley Melton returns to Bridgeport as the citys first executive assistant and community relations officer. She says the role fills a long missing centralized department, handling a city staff directory, council packets, and communications among staff, council members, and the public. Melton, a Bridgeport native with an English background, loves the public relations aspect of the job and earned her bachelors degree at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls.
