Amvets Post 70 of Decatur holds its first meeting at 105 E Main Street on February 12, 1971 at 8 00 p m with membership applications welcomed. Veterans who served since September 16 1940 are eligible. Officers elected include Robert Hargis Commander Bonnie Cambron First Vice Commander Marvin Wilde Adjutant and finance officer Leroy Wilde Chaplain and Paul Walfe Provost Marshal. Special guests included Commander Robert Reed and Texas State Commander George Tucker who helped establish the charter.

At the Wise County Historical Society meeting on January 28 1971 Dr G C Rann of Decatur was named President with J P Mann Paradise as Vice President Mary Steph Alvord as Secretary and Everett Sloan Greenwood as Treasurer The group plans to finish restoration projects Woody Cabin and the old BBC Administration Building and to observe History Appreciation Day while addressing water overflow issues at the Oakland Heights area tank and valve problems at the tower prompting repairs and better control by the filter plant.
