Grass Fire Threatens Bridgeport Businesses and Homes
Five area fire departments battled a large grass fire on Bridgeport's south side last Thursday afternoon. Fire Marshall Mike Bement said fireworks started the blaze. Firefighters from Bridgeport Decatur Paradise Boonsville Balsora and Chico contained the flames after about an hour as high winds spread fire toward businesses and homes near the Paradise highway viaduct and railroad tracks. Dense smoke hampered traffic while police directed the scene.
