The Boonsville blaze burned more than 4,500 acres, costing the state at least 27,000 for aircraft, ground equipment and personnel. County and volunteer costs are pending. Texas Forest Service official Lee McNeely cited dramatic close calls and tall grass as fuel, with defensible space saving homes.
Former Bridgeport Code Enforcement Officer Jim Cowell has left the city to become Wise County Facilities Manager effective December. He sought a change after six years in the same job serving thousands of people and a routine daily routine.
Audrie Palmer reports the new Bridgeport Elementary School will start classes January 2. Principal Ron Gordon praises staff effort to ready the 80,000 square foot campus with color coded halls for each grade. Students toured the building last week and noted the yellow wing for second grade and blue for first grade, pre K and Head Start, with red for kindergarten and special programs.
Bridgeport High School athletic director Danny Henson told the BISD board at the December meeting that the Athletic Booster Club will be re arranged into nine sport specific clubs. The plan, to take effect on Tuesday January 17, creates separate boosters for football volleyball track baseball softball golf and tennis plus separate boys and girls basketball clubs while cross country and power lift will not have boosters.
