Decatur man leads deputies on icy early morning chase
Wise County Sheriff David Walker reports a 26-year-old Decatur man Michael Delaware led deputies on an icy 5 a.m. pursuit from Decatur toward Bridgeport, ramming patrol units and a horse on Cuba Road before cornering in pastures. Delaware refused to exit, later driving through a fence and injuring no one, with shots fired during the chase.

Ice Strains Wise County Roads On Freezing Day
A Wordy, ice bound rescue day as Wise County roads tangled amid a 4 degree low last Friday. DPS and the Wise County Sheriff’s Department logged 65 reported accidents on Wednesday including 21 major and 44 minor crashes. Factory trucks and multiple wrecks created long wrecker waits while drivers slid off roads and other incidents went unreported. Staff kept busy as officers assisted medical emergencies and tried to clear scenes across Bridgeport and Decatur.

Chico fire claims longtime residents
Two Chico residents, David Horne aged 64 and Lucinda Cindy Horne aged 51, died in an early Wednesday fire north of Chico on Highway 101. Fire Marshal Paul Cunningham cited the wood burning stove as the likely ignition. Their son Alan Horne, a 1992 Chico High graduate, was rescued and taken to Wise Regional Health System.
