Bridgeport city officials at a special noon meeting adopted a five minute limit for visitors addressing the council. The rule is not ironclad and extra time may be granted in certain cases. The measure aims to curb interruptions that have disrupted meetings and improve city business flow.
Twenty two Wise County pecan specimens travel to Ridgemar Mall Fort Worth for the regional show. Local winner Marvin Crawford's In Shell Champions headline the display alongside Hershel Pearson native champions and Coleman Rube orchard shelling champions. Viewing begins 5 p.m. Wednesday with exhibits through Friday noon. Cooking demos follow with free recipe booklets. Extension agent John South joins other pecan experts to advise residents.
A two-truck collision on US 380 4.1 miles east of Decatur left Waylon Harold Klatt dead at the scene. Leonard Pollock and Jessie Vance were treated after the wreck, which involved a glass-hauling rig and caused highway closures for over an hour.
Bridgeport trustees renew a two year contract with Pritchard & Abbott for annual oil gas and utility property appraisals for tax purposes. New rate set at five cents per hundred dollars of assessed value. Delinquent taxes total 108811.35 as of December 1 1977 with attorney collection success.
Two auto train crashes in Wise County last week seriously injured one person and left others treated at local hospitals. In Bridgeport James Hayes Christian skidded into a train engine. his pickup damaged but he not seriously hurt. In Paradise Roy Monroe Phillips’s car was struck on FM 3259 near US 114 injuring Mildred Wilson and sending a second passenger Juanita Clements to Decatur hospital.
Friends use a front porch flag to show Mrs. Sadie Lee Rann is home and available for visits while she recovers from cancer surgery. She taught music and served as church organist at First United Methodist in Bridgeport, and plans to return to Fort Worth for treatment.
Brewer B. Doughty of Dallas joins the Bridgeport Index to work mainly in advertising sales. He moved to Bridgeport two weeks ago and began duties last week. Previously he supervised a Dallas printing company for eleven years and spent two years with the Texas Turnpike Authority. He recently married Dollie Smith of Bridgeport.
Last week’s front page listing swapped owners for Western Auto and Whites Auto. David should own Whites Auto and Sid Jones Western Auto. The paper offers a brief apology for the printing error.
Two hundred students from the Middle School and High School bands present a Christmas concert on Sunday December 18 at 2 30 p m in the High School auditorium. Admission is free with special percussion and brass performances and a post concert reception.
Cindy Crimm of Bridgeport suffered severe burns when her housecoat ignited from an open gas heater at her parents' home. She underwent skin grafts at Parkland Hospital burn center in Dallas and was reported in good condition after extensive surgery.
Wise County commissioners agreed to buy a 1978 Chevrolet van ambulance from Prestige Vehicles of Arlington for 14 666 dollars, the lowest of three bids. The unit will lack a radio and some disposable hardware but fits Trinity Emergency Medical specs. two tachographs will be installed in the old and new ambulances to monitor mileage and speed.
