Monette Durbin announces candidacy for Wise County Clerk in the upcoming election. She notes long residency since 1940 in Decatur and experience as an abstractor and recorder across Gregg Camp Panola Tarrant and Wise Counties.
The jolly old elf Santa will arrive in Bridgeport Saturday to visit friends of all ages and spread Christmas cheer. He will be at the Lions Hall from 10 00 a.m. to 4 00 p.m. as usual he brings candy for younger visitors and the event is sponsored by the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce.
Bridgeport defeated Nocona 57 48 and Byers 53 41 and Petrolia 54 49 to win the Byers tournament. Brenda Ford scored 86 in the event with 22 vs Nocona 26 vs Byers and 28 vs Petrolia. Pam Tackel 15 rebounds and 25 ballups in Byers game. Suzy Fagg Terry Shanks and others started every game. Shanks 20 vs Byers Fagg 17 vs Petrolia. coach Betty Cagle praised guards. Lissies won district game 56 54 over Decatur as Terry Shanks made key play late.
Bridgeport boys and girls won games to clinch the Sissies Tournament title with Jearene Lewis 16 points Brenda Ford 21 and Terry Shanks 11. The event runs December 11 12 13 at Brewer near White Settlement with boys game times 4 15 p m 7 15 p m and finals Saturday night at 8. Jacksboro visits Bridgeport December 16 for district openers.
Sixteen year old Jo Ellen Taylor was crowned Wise County Pecan Queen at Bridgeport High School. Debra Reeves was first runner up and Claire Coale second. Jo Ellen represents the Bridgeport Garden Club and will be eligible for state competition next year at the Texas pecan growers convention. Awards also went to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clemans for In Shell and Reserve Pecan Championships and Adult Foods trophy. A reception followed at Runaway Bay hosted by Mr. and Mrs. J N Leslie.
Judge John A. Winder was reelected chairman of the Wise County Planning Commission at a Decatur meeting in the County Courtroom. Mrs. David Bryant was elected vice-chairman and Sam Renshaw was reelected secretary treasurer. The commission also voted to receive a comprehensive Wise County Water and Sewer Plan by firms Rady and Associates and Tresse Nichols and Endres.
Bridgeport high school hosts a Wednesday night charity basketball game featuring former stars Danny Sipes and C. D. Philips against the Harlem Stars. The lineup includes Bridgeport and Decatur coaches and local players. Tipoff is 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $1.50 adults $1.00 students.
Bridgeport Independent School District announces 18 graduates from the Adult Basic Education Program. An examination was given Saturday December 6. All class members who commented completed the program.
