Chamber hears of rate rise and manager under fire
Bridgeport Chamber luncheon hears City Councilman Selz defend City Manager Maury Brown amid calls to abolish the post. A petition to that end was dismissed by Mayor Harwood using City Attorney Clements, who urged more formality. Selz warned Brown will step on toes if he proceeds and signaled an inevitable rate increase for city utilities. Brown notes Texas Power and Light raised city electricity 72 percent from 1972 to 1975, a rise not yet passed to consumers. Howard Meyers disputes rumors of doubled power rates since Brown’s arrival and says some petition signers were misled.
