Christmas Lights Go Dark at Decatur Home

George King and his wife north of Decatur will skip their annual Christmas light display this year citing lack of time. The Kings are known for a festive, growing display, though George plans to be more selective as Decatur thrives with his chamber work. Christmas Home Tour By Bridgeport Garden Club

A Christmas tour of homes will be held this afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00 by the Bridgeport Runaway Bay Garden Club. Two Bridgeport and three Runaway Bay homes are on the tour with tickets at $1. Refreshments will be served at Miss Boaz’s home.

Lake Bridgeport Petition Seeks Liquor Election

County Clerk Laverne Forman says Lake Bridgeport residents filed a petition for a liquor election, the second attempt after the first was invalid for insufficient signatures. If certified, the petition must be signed by 10 percent of last general election voters.

Manning Drops Suit Against City Over Flood Damages

A $100,000 damage suit against the City of Bridgeport was dismissed with prejudice in Decatur 235th District Court. Don Manning claimed airport road runoff diverted water onto 105 acres, causing economic losses from reduced milk sales. Proceedings included witness testimony earlier in the week and a disputed loss calculation.

Pecan Show Winners Heading to Regional Pecan Show

Wise County Pecan Show drew a small crowd but showcased high quality pecans. 64 entries included 28 improved and 16 native varieties with 22 advancing to the regional competition at Fort Worth Ridgmar Mall December 14 15 and 16.

Bridgeport Council Approves Easement for Bass Addition Lift Station

Bridgeport officials approved a permanent easement on the B D Fitzgerald property for a Bass Addition sewer lift station begun two years ago. Fitzgerald will receive 200 for damages and four taps along his line were approved. Action on the six inch sewer line and bids was tabled. Brown sought city use of equipment to build road in Bridgeport Industrial Park and urged Lone Star Gas improvements for hydroponics and new industry growth.

Bridgeport's Community Christmas Tree lighting is moved to 7:00 PM Thursday due to weather and decorating delays. Jaycee chairman Tom Hudson announced the change and noted Santa Claus will make his first Bridgeport appearance this year during the ceremony.

Four Indictments Returned by Wise County Grand Jury

AWise County Grand Jury returned four indictments on Friday. Rudol Hodge of Altus Oklahoma was not charged after a no bill finding in a negligent homicide case arising from a crash that killed four Montague County residents. Indicted individuals include Michael Anthony Jeanes for marijuana possession over four ounces James Richard Hamilton for burglary Pat Miller for theft of service and Jerry Wayne Self for habitual criminal status.

Council Approves Solar Feasibility Study Extension

Bridgeport City Council authorized a six month extension to the Solar Feasibility Study with the Department of Energy replacing ERDA. Maury Brown reported the project is 65 percent complete and sought additional funds. the council approved a partial $19,202 payment contingent on receipt of the check, bringing total federal grants to $111,804 with $41,898 received.
