The Bridgeport Lions Club and the Young Women's Amity Club begin selling Christmas trees Saturday December 4 at the building between Tacker's TV Shop and the Recreation Center. Trees range 2 to 8 feet, priced from 1.50 dollars. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
Chartie Lambert announces candidacy for re election as County Treasurer with a formal statement to follow.
County Judge John A. Winder has authorized the Index to announce his candidacy for re election. The full notice will appear in this paper at a later date.
The Park Board chaired by A L Payne seeks $10 000 to finish the park. Donations have begun with Bridgeport Hospital giving $100 and many more are needed. residents are urged to contribute money labor material or time and attend meetings for support.
Agnes Brown announces intent to run for re election to the Office of District Clerk subject to Democratic Primaries next year. She thanks supporters and pledges continuation of current policies and efforts.
Clyde Manning announces candidacy for re election to Wise County School Superintendent. The formal announcement will be published in this paper.
The Bowie District farm skills contest in Decatur saw the FFA chapter win two top awards. Freshmen Louie Raines Danny Gilreath and Jimmy Evans took 1st in bronze welding while team members Jerry Petty Billy Stanford and Joe Potts earned 2nd place in bronze welding among 15 other schools.
