Ronnye Sewalt of Chico won first in calf roping average and $1,229 at the Colorado Springs rodeo, with a two-calf total time of 26.2 seconds. He now sits second in the national calf roping standings with $16,784 earned this year.
The Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department received a 75 dollar check from Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Companies as thanks for its work on E. N. Burress property at 700 South Cowan in Decatur Texas. The funds will buy equipment for rural fire response.
The fourth annual Wise County hay show starts at 9 a.m. Thursday in Bridgeport City Park pavilion with 78 hay entries. Speakers include Tommy White from Denton and Dr. Ray Anderson. Champion Hay wins a $65 boots prize from First National Bank of Decatur, with multiple local banks and firms contributing hats. Bill Hartsell chairs. event funded by Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce.

About 95 residents met at Bridgeport High School to organize a rural water district named West Wise Rural Water Supply Corporation. Ed Cowling chaired the steering group and FHA HUD officials outlined loan options and costs, with a preliminary $300,000 federal loan application filed and a projected $1,200 per connection.
About 10 Lone Star Producing workers plus units at Lone Star Gas and related companies walked out at 8 am Tuesday. OCAW President Billy Butler cites 900 to 1000 strikers statewide and rejects a 3 percent raise, urging 30 cents an hour plus more vacation. The dispute is with federal mediator Wal ter C. White.
Superintendent A E Greer warns that Bridgeport may start one week late unless access to the New Junior High School is secured in time. The Wise County Shrine Club plans its annual Fish Fry at Runaway Bay beach on Saturday August 23 with feeding starting at 7:00 p m.
Lake Bridgeport boating accident injures Mark Craig 12 son of Dr and Mrs Charles Craig of Floydada on Saturday afternoon. Witnesses report the youth sustained injuries with local responders aiding at the scene.
Perry's Cafe will open at a new location on September 1, three miles out Runaway Bay road. The Burkhalters thank patrons for seven years of support.
