A caller asked Run Away Bay Yacht Club to fix a leaking yacht but was told they only serve food and drinks. The caller teased the receptionist, who warned not to publish the incident, mentioning paste-up girls and media errors.
A Court of Honor will honor James A Bell as Eagle Scout Saturday August 14 at 7 0 p m in the First Baptist Church Bridgeport fellowship hall. He earned 24 badges with Troop 128 Chico after Troop 194 Bridgeport disbanded. Tommy Mann also became an Eagle from Troop 128 in March making the first Bridgeport Eagle Scouts in years. James is the son of Mr and Mrs James A Bell of Bridgeport.
Texas crude oil production reached a record 1.2 billion barrels last year, pushing 81 year total to 34.1 billion barrels. Kenneth E Monetague notes economic benefits across 205 of 254 counties, while Wise County reports 48,324,749 barrels by early 1971 and Andrews leads counties with 71,684,656 barrels. Gregg remains the largest cumulative producer at 2.2 billion barrels.
Bridgeport plans a rodeo parade with the high school marching band leading the procession through downtown. The parade forms at the city pool at 4 15 and starts at 5 p m with about 20 floats entered by local groups. Rodeo events include wild horse races bronc riding bull riding calf roping steer wrestling and more each night with trophies for top finishers.
Arthur Jarnagin J O Taylor and David Grubbs fret over wives who left Monday for Reno Nevada to visit gambling casinos. Jarnagin quips that he lent his checkbook and jokes they may soon co own several Reno gambling joints thanks to the women’s luck.
A course in Auto Mechanics for adults may be offered here starting in September. Cooke County Junior College would bring the extension program if enough interest exists. Two or three night classes weekly are planned, totaling 3 to 3 1/2 hours per session for college credit. Interested individuals should call Superintendent Greer at 683-4154 for admission forms. Registration is 6:30 p.m. August 10 at the high school. CCJC academic class students will register then as well.
A new state rule requires all students from first grade through college to be immunized against six diseases including smallpox diphtheria tetanus poliomyelitis measles and rubella. Records must show dates and types of vaccines with medical or religious exemptions allowed on individualized affidavits. Students may start with at least one vaccine by January 1 1972 and complete all as soon as feasible.
All seventh and eighth grade football players must attend a physical at the Bridgeport Clinic on August 19 at 7 30 p m. Coaches Burch Parker and Sims will be present. Any physicals performed after that date will be paid by the students.
Bridgeport High School will extend the open campus policy for juniors and seniors with a 9 week reporting schedule and computer assisted report cards and attendance. New courses include World Government Economics Spanish II Journalism I and Distributive Education. A budget hearing is set for August 23 to discuss the school budget and answer questions. The board approved purchasing about 10 acres south of the football field at 1000 per acre for agriculture and parking starting Sept 1.
