On air personality Miss Vicki Holder announced that August 31 will be the station KBOC final broadcast as ownership changes proceed. Dallas owner Dick Witkowski announced a July 31 closing. California buyers plan to acquire the Spanish language stations, with Holder thanking fans of the People to People program as the sale and sale-ad noted in The Index.
Mona Maria Castillo eight of Bridgeport pulled through brain surgery at Cook Children’s Medical Center Fort Worth after a five hour operation. Her mother Rachel Castillo said Mona remained in intensive care under 24 hours and was moved to a room the next day. Mona is responsive and sitting up with help and could be in the hospital two weeks to six months as she recovers with neurology follow up planned.
Diamond Super Market faced a Thursday morning burglary after Wednesday closing Aug 3. Bridgeport police responded to a 6 30 a m 911 call as a child found the damaged safe and lottery machine. About 10000 dollars in cash was reported stolen.
Bridgeport Elementary School will host a Meet the Teachers night on Monday Aug 22 to help parents and students become familiar with the school before classes begin. Kindergarten meets at 5 p.m. in the cafeteria, followed by first and second grades at 5:30 p.m. Classroom rosters will be posted at the school. Principal Ron Gordon notes the event accommodates parents attending other campuses.
Paradise High School introduces Bill Altz as the new band director. Altz, a trumpet player trained at the University of South Florida, emphasizes versatility and hands on teaching as he guides the band through football games, UIL events, and concerts. He cites a commitment to the award winning tradition and notes the band is a fast improving group.
