A family plans organic chicken farming but balks at killing them. Their fifteen year old son Stan proposes poisoning the birds to solve the dilemma, prompting discussion on ethics and survival.
Plans for the 4th Annual Wise County Hay Show were announced this week. Sponsors include the Wise County Programs Building Committee Crops Committee, the Decatur Chamber Agricultural Division, and the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce. The show, to be held August 21 at Bridgeport Park Pavilion, is chaired by Bill Hartsell. Hay producers may deliver a bale to pickup stations by August 11, 1969, at First State Bank Chico.
Texans will vote August 5 on nine constitutional amendments. Highlights include repealing obsolete sections, empowering the Texas Water Development Board, capping legislative salaries, exempting nonprofit water firms from ad valorem taxes, and raising annual public assistance limits for the aged disabled and blind.
Don Ito of Ontario and Mike Robertson of Nova Scotia captured top honors in the senior and men divisions as the National Kite Flying Championships concluded at Runaway Bay Resort. Ito swept both senior men slalom and trick titles, with Canadian flyers Harris and Rockett among top finishers.
Texas voters will cast ballots Tuesday August 5 on nine proposed constitutional amendments. In Bridgeport voting runs 8:00 a m to 7:00 p m at Lions Hall with H R Harwood as election judge and Bill Durham as assistant. Clerks are Exia Boase V E Baldridge James Isom and Earl Kelley.
The North Texas Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association brings its Christmas Seal Mobile X-ray Unit to Bridgeport on Friday August 1, 1969 from 12 noon to 6 pm. All residents age 15 and over may be screened for tuberculosis lung cancer emphysema enlarged heart and other chest diseases. The service is free and aims to detect illnesses early in Wise County.
All boys in grades nine through twelve will get football shoes starting at 4 30 p m August 13 at the Field House. Physical examinations will be offered at the Clinic beginning 7 30 p m the same day. Attendance is urged to avoid exam costs.
Wise County commissioners court appoint Dr David Bryant of Bridgeport as county health officer effective July 9 1969 He will handle duties including water supply and sanitary conditions for veteran loan signings and other public health matters to protect community health services.
