William J. Gaynor mayor of New York died at sea September 10. His body lay in his Brooklyn home after being brought ashore from the Lusitania in rain. A 109 strong mounted police escort formed the funeral procession toward City Hall. The body remains at the mayor’s home until tomorrow night. private services precede a Trinity church funeral Monday. Tragic dynamite blast kills father and daughter in Bloomington
In Bloomington Indiana Mack Hurst a 50 year old stone mason blew up his home with dynamite killing himself and his seven year old daughter Maude and wounding two other girls aged 13 and 6. Four sticks were found unexploded. Mrs Hurst escaped unharmed and said her husband woke the family and said they would all die together. The blast shattered windows for blocks and damaged nearby homes. Police and fire crews investigated as neighbors recalled his recent odd behavior and an inquest declared him insane though not violently so.
