Wild auto escapade injures three in Westport crash
In Westport a two ton Stearns touring car rammed a trolley near Riverside Avenue after midnight. David Hawes and Leo R. Best, both badly hurt, were taken to Norwalk Hospital where doctors said they would recover. Hawes lost his left ear and suffered a broken collar bone, while Best sustained multiple cuts and possible internal injuries. The car, abandoned a week earlier on Golden Hill Street, was badly wrecked.

A London workman found most of a stolen $650,000 pearl necklace on a sidewalk in Highbury. The pearls, partly recovered, linked to a mail theft from Paris to London on July 16. Police arrested five men, three English and two Austrians, on September 2 for attempting to dispose of the pearls.
