Chesterfield Court House Va Sept 4. Henry Clay Beattie Jr on trial for wife murder may go to the jury by Thursday after the defense closed and the prosecution began rebuttal. Beattie faced cross examination until the judge limited further questions. Witnesses for the defense contradicted his account about meeting Paul Beattie and the shotgun used in the murder. Beattie testified with composure as family and supporters watched.

Isaac Williams swore he is secretary of the Newfield Hook & Ladder Co stating 48 members still living in the city. Senate Adjourns Early to Attend State Fair
Hartford reporters note the Senate voted to adjourn at 1 o clock today and tomorrow then resume at 10 20 am Thursday, one hour earlier than usual. Senator Judson urged reconsideration for urgent matters but the body kept to the plan to let members attend the state fair. In the House Representative Dunn moved to adjourn until next Tuesday citing little business. the motion passed, with the speaker noting a quorum. The House also adjourned until tomorrow morning at 11 15.

Boy murderer Geidel sentenced by Judge Crane

Banks Will Resign From Probate Job
Fairfield Sept 5 Judge Elmore S Banks announced he plans to retire from all public office to focus on his law practice. He said he would ask Governor Baldwin to authorize a special election next November for a new probate judge and would also resign as prosecutor of the court of common pleas. Shipwreck tale from recent hurricane recounted at quarantine
Five men from the schooner James Davidson, wrecked off the South Atlantic during the August hurricane, were rescued by the Northwestern and landed in Havana before being sent home by the American consul.
