Harry K Thaw fugitive from Matteawan faced a special board of inquiry in Coatsbook Que for two hours arguing he entered Canada as a tourist and thus was not subject to deportation under the immigration act The board adjourned until 2 pm Thaw testified that he boarded a Rochester New Hampshire train aimed for Pittsburgh and hired two farmers to drive him to the border The hearing was held in secret with limited testimony and no discussion of insanity The board showed its authorization from Acting Interior Minister Dr J Doherty The Thaw lawyers included W L Shurtleff and H R Frazier with T K LaFlamme as chief counsel who left town suddenly prompting notes of a possible writ of prohibition Judge Hutchinson at Sherbrooke reportedly refused to grant such a writ

New Haven Sept 4 coroner Eli Mix opened a secret inquest into the Bar Harbor Express wreck that killed 21. The inquiry will inform the State's Attorney for possible criminal action. Witnesses include A B Miller and Charlie Murray from the White Mountain Express. The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers hired attorney E Terry to seek counsel for Miller, but the coroner barred legal representatives from attending. The interstate commerce commission inspector and Connecticut Public Utilities Commission chief engineers will participate in later public inquiries.

Cornelius G. Baker of the Y M C A asks the health department to stop boys from bathing at the Pequonnock River lower bridge on Stratford Avenue due to sewage filth.
