Old Contractor Found Dead in Rooming House
The body of Miles Beardsley a prominent contractor and pioneer in Pennsylvania oil fields was found in a Fairfield avenue rooming house. He died apparently from accidental gas buildup after a light blew out. Beardsley had long worked in pile driving and bridge construction in Bridgeport and elsewhere, with ties to A Blakeman and major projects like Congress street and the old railroad bridge. He was about 70 to 75 with surviving relatives including a grandson Clifford Beardsley and a son Charles B. Beardsley.

Many Soldiers Die in Mobile Train Wreck Near Buckatunna
Mobile October 20 Victims of yesterdays troop train wreck on the Mobile and Ohio Railroad at Buckatunna Miss were brought to Mobile on relief trains. Seventeen are dead and 74 seriously injured among the 170th cavalry 39th company and 8th band. some wounded later died. The derailment pulled a locomotive tender and three coaches off a 25 foot trestle. The group was en route from Fort Morgan and Berankas to a state fair at Meridian.
