Missouri Democrats claim victory for national and state tickets ahead of election. Capper leads by 100000. Hubert Leardner, Democratic state chairman, predicted Wilson reelection and Lansdon victory as governor but offered no final plurality. St. Louis reports Democratic optimism.
Philadelphia and surrounding areas brace for a decisive election with Democrats projecting a record vote for Wilson and Republicans predicting a Hughes landslide in Pennsylvania. Across Delaware and Maryland similar high stakes and party battles unfold as campaigns push toward election day.
Chicago reports that Illinois voters will decide the presidential race as parties build organization in wards and precincts. Leaders expect about 1.8 million total ballots with roughly 700 thousand cast by women who vote for president for the first time while state officers remain mostly unseen.
Columbus reports one of the heaviest polls expected as both parties claim large margins. Democrat state chairman Finley says Wilson and the full state ticket will win Ohio by 100000, while Republican Hatfield predicts Hughes Willis and Herrick will carry by 60000 to 100000. Atlanta November 6 Republicans push in southern states as Democrats anticipate a large Wilson plurality in the presidential race. Tennessee North Carolina and Florida are seen as favorable battle grounds as campaign efforts intensify for state and national tickets.
S Z Poli owner of the Plaza thea tre, once Hawes Opera House, will rebuild to create a larger modern theatre in Bridgeport. Construction will not start within six months due to leases, but Poli will expand frontage on Fairfield avenue and provide a bigger, better auditorium. The Hawes Opera House opened circa 1876 and hosted Barton Primrose West’s minstrels and many famed performers, with Poli’s management turning it into a leading vaudeville and cinema venue.
Police pay raise approved under pressure from Republican machine as Stanley interprets orders. Salary overhaul raises Superintendent to 3500, adds assistant superintendent, increases captains lieutenants sergeants and patrolmen, boosts operators, matron stenographer chauffeurs and other posts ahead of Council vote.
The senator with Mexican stakes claims a Hughes victory would spark less harm than a Wilson peace. He cites heavy Republican fund subscribers and financiers tied to tariffs, the Fed Reserve, and the Eight Hour law, arguing these interests drive anti‑Wilson efforts and praise intervention.
