A rapidly revolving emery wheel shattered in the Locomotive factory grinding department. Pieces flew across the room injuring several mechanics. Representative Farrenkopf Dies in Hartford Hospital
Hartford May 16 Frank Farrenkopf of Rockville who represented Vernon in the General Assembly died at Hartford Hospital after kidney surgery. Born March 22 1855 in Stafford Springs he lived in Rockville since infancy and ran a grocery. A Democrat he served in 1911 and held posts as city treasurer and auditor. Survived by wife and two daughters. He was a Mason and Pythian and sat on the appropriations committee. He is the 14th 1911 assembly member to die and the first of this session.

Hartford May 16 Representative Bert H Lanphere of Waterford was elected county commissioner of New London county by the House on Wednesday and will take office July 1 succeeding Charles D Noyes of Norwich. The Senate had selected Lanphere and sent his name to the House. The vote was declared tied until Speaker Webster voted against the resolution. Lanphere claimed Joyce of Fairfield county voted against him contrary to a paired arrangement. A recall resolution to correct the record was passed unanimously. The French bill for a state farm for inebriates was reported favorably to the Senate. It provides confinement, employment and scientific treatment for narcotics and stimulant addiction with a $50,000 appropriation and seven directors appointed by the governor. The shell fisheries committee favored a 1.5 percent levy on oyster land value, with forfeiture provisions if lands are not improved within five years and appeals to the superior court.
