Meriden Man Dies Suddenly In Auto Accident
Egbert M. Smith, 65, proprietor of the Meriden House and former Grevel Road farmer, collapsed from heart disease while driving his automobile on Main Street with his wife Mrs. Smith beside him. The vehicle struck a streetcar, pushing it along as bystanders rallied. Mr. Smith died en route to a drugstore. Mrs. Smith fainted and was taken to Meriden hospital. His crank-started new car may have triggered the fatal episode.

Judge shoots chicken thief in New Britain incident
Edward Loomis of Middletown was shot in the neck by Judge George Griswold while trying to rob a hen roost. The judge stumbled as the assailant sprang. Loomis was taken to New Britain Hospital in reportedly not grave condition. Miss Mary Griswold restrained Loomis until help arrived. Loomis refused to identify relatives.
