The progressive wing forced Ollie James of Kentucky as permanent chairman while Bryan allies clashed over the platform. The convention adjourned after a tense session with speeches by Folk and Rayner and renewed calls for a bold progressive program.
The draft platform pledges enforcement of anti trust laws on civil and criminal sides to protect honest industry, denounces central bank systems, calls for banking reform to prevent control by elites, supports income tax, direct senate election, and six year terms. It endorses post roads, waterways, pure food law, natural resource conservation, and a simplified agricultural policy urging voters to back Democrats for normal conditions and lower government waste.
Special to The Farmer reports General H. A. Bishop and Wilson Marshall among interested spectators at a Baltimore convention. The pair arrived by water aboard the Bishop yacht and enjoyed a pleasant sail with friends. Hartford notes Trinity College held its annual commencement with exercises in Alumni Hall following morning prayer and the procession. Among guests was Bimeon Byee.
