Express and Mail Trains Crash on Trestle Killing Six

A wreck on a 100 foot high bridge near Owen’s Creek left six dead and a dozen injured when the Blue Mountain express and the Western Maryland fast mail collided on a trestle. Passengers Mrs Chipchase and her son were among the dead. The baggage car was torn loose and thrown into the ravine while the parlor car narrowly stayed on the rails. A scheduling mix up in conductor orders is blamed for the catastrophe. Giants star Hans Lobert will miss weeks after being hit with a thrown ball in practice.
