Newtown Favors Peace and Wilson Amid Recruiting Doubts
Residents recall the old training days and the wide Awakes era as a distant memory. No volunteers respond to a current appeal, and a local recruiting office is thought unlikely to attract soldiers. Newtown supports peace and backs President Wilson.

Local society notes and a consumer advertising critique
Woodbridge hosts a wedding anniversary for Mr and Mrs William Dickitinson with guests attending from nearby areas. A party at Mr and Mrs S G Seeley’s home featured whist and refreshments. Various visits and graduation notices are noted, followed by reflections on truthful advertising and a cautionary tale about a park band’s schedule. The Interstate Commerce Commission suspends coal rate hikes from Illinois mines to Chicago and nearby states until December 29. An advertisement touts Cyrus Wart Remover at The Cyrus Pharmacy.
