Main street photographer Seeley, adjutant general of the Grand Army of the Republic, acquired the butt of a 30 pound Parrott gun shell from Lookout Mountain. The relic ties to the Battle Above the Clouds when Indiana’s 10th battery fired on Confederate positions. Seeley learned photography under A. J. Lawrence, later meeting the wartime photographer's son at Table Rock. The shell fragment will be mounted in rosewood as a prized keepsake.

War dept buys blankets for veterans camp needs
The War Department yesterday purchased about 40,080 dollars more blankets at a cost of 100,000 dollars. A similar amount was expended originally. Only one blanket per veteran will be allowed. Vendors of souvenirs or goods are banned in the camp. The national party headquarters report heavy testing for privileges but most refusals. The telephone system under construction connects with the United States Signal Corp. About 60 miles of wire has been strung in the camp.

Date For Gas Hearing July 9 Postponed
Representative John H. McMurrey was notified that the Public Utilities Commission postponed the gas reduction hearing for Bridgeport Gas Light Company petitioners until July 9 at 10 o'clock. The hearing had been set for July 2 and was moved due to longer duration of other hearings. If acceptable, the hearing will be held at city hall and petitions seek a gas price reduction from 6 to 3.0 cents per thousand cubic feet.
