Submarine and Aeroplane Dominate War Science Debate
The article contrasts the submarine and the aeroplane as pivotal war forces, tracing early American inventors from Bushnell to Falcon and detailing how submarines breach harbor steel and how airplanes refine reconnaissance, artillery, and bombing. It argues these inventions reshape global power dynamics and may guide peaceful progress and Latin American trade.
Our Relations To Latin America
Muriel Hotchkiss argues that Latin America spans Mexico to the Caribbean and South America, with Spanish language and customs shaping commerce. She notes Europe’s wartime disruption opening U S trade, Panama Canal links, Pan American conferences, and warns that American firms must adapt sales, shipping, and local knowledge for gradual, disciplined expansion into western South America and Central America.
