Elevator Boy's Brazen Attempt Shocks Bridgeport

Police report a dramatic scene at 2030 Main Street as Nicholas Hadad, a 19 year old Syrian immigrant, armed with two pistols and a dirk attempted to ambush Police Sergeant William O Leary and Patrolman Dooley during a burglary at Nicholas Smith’s store. A struggle ended with Hadad shot in the face and knocked unconscious as the weapon misfired twice, the third shot exploding below the floor. Hadad, once an elevator boy at the Stratfield hotel, was found with a pistol belt, a candle, and gas fumes from a hidden can, while detectives piece together his motive and past connections.

Old Boston traveler misreads train, wanders Bridgeport

Mrs Caroline Weberson an 80 year old German woman mistook a Bridgeport stop for Brooklyn and wandered the city seeking relatives. She was found by Special Policeman Reilly near Golden Hill, taken to police headquarters, then to Lakeview Home for the night. Authorities later learned she was traveling from Boston to New York. her son in law sent her to Brooklyn.

Judge Howard J. Curtis presided at the appeal of Dennis Haggerty challenging the county commissioners granting a license transfer for Frank J. Triple Linkers Dedicate Fine New Odd Fellows Hall

Bridgeport Odd Fellows celebrate the dedication of their new hall at Broad and John streets. About 1,300 of 3,000 members marched from Pequonnock Hall to the Stratfield, where grand lodge officers blessed the rooms. A banquet, music, and speeches follow, with a larger parade planned at 6 pm.

Porter Charlton confesses to murdering wife in Italy

Porter Charlton, aboard the Prinzess Irene, confessed in Hoboken to killing his wife Mary Scott Castle Chariton in a villa at Moltrasio near Como, Italy. He described the attack with a mallet, body stuffed in a trunk, then dumped in Lake Como. He is 21, wife 35, married in Wilmington, Del. The investigation linked to Italian authorities and U.S. diplomats.

Aeronaut Cody Dashes to Earth in Accident

Aldershot England June 23 Captain 8 F Cody American aeronaut and English naturalized pilot in British War Office aero work is believed dying after his machine crashed on Laffan's Plain. He was unconscious as his two thousand pound craft with 780 square feet wings and eighty horsepower motor smashed. Cody’s notable flight occurred September 28, 1909, a 47 mile cross country circuit lasting one hour three minutes.

A Los Angeles report states G Spalding head of a Chicago sporting goods house has been formally asked by San Diego businessmen to accept the nomination to succeed Frank P Flint in the United States Senate. Aubrey Davidson of the San Diego Union Savings and Trust company released the letter. Edwin A Meserve, a Flint friend, announced his candidacy with Flint's support amid a Ballinger interior secretary rumor.

Seven Indicted for Murder of Waltham Man

Boston June 23 Secretly indicted as accessories after the fact to the murder of Clarence F. Glover a Waltham laundryman last fall Glover's wife Lillian M Glover her attorney Samuel D Elmore Glover's two brothers Seymour and A M Glover Arthur F Tupper and Mr and Mrs George Freeman were arraigned before Judge Stevens in the Cambridge superior court The murdered Glover on his dying bed accused Hattie LeBlanc a young girl of having shot him at the laundry after a clandestine meeting After the shooting the girl disappeared and was found three days later concealed under a bed in the Glover home where she had been employed as a domestic It is now charged that the wife of Glover and the other persons arraigned knew of the girl's presence in the house while all New England was being searched for her and conspired to hide her thereby defeating the ends of justice When the seven were arraigned today all pleaded not guilty and each was held in 2000 bail Ever since the crime occurred the circumstances surrounding it have been wrapped in mystery the LeBlanc girl declaring that while with Glover in the laundry it was some other hand which fired the fatal shot The trial of the seven persons accused in the latest development of the case is being proceeded with today.

Wealthy Greenwich Man Dies Abroad of Heart Failure

Lyndon H. Stevens of Greenwich Conn died Tuesday at the Grand Hotel abroad. Coroner’s inquiry adjourned after autopsy failed to prove poisoning. Family says death due to heart failure from influenza after several severe attacks. He was director in several corporations and president of Batopilas Mining Co. of Mexico and local board of trade. about 67, survived by wife two daughters and his wife.
