Senator Beveridge Attacks National Cash Register Monopoly
Washington June 19 Senator Beveridge denounced the National Cash Register Company as the country’s most complete monopoly. He proposed trimming tariff on cash registers from 30 to 15 percent ad valorem. He cited 500000 machines sold at $75 million cost and claimed Americans paid $5 million more than the English for the same machines. He showed price lists alleging foreign buyers could import cheaper and questioned indictments and prosecutions. The motion was postponed for Finance Committee consideration. Beginning tomorrow mass at St Marys church and July first month celebrations announced.
