Warneford and Needham Die in Aero Crash Near Paris
British aviator Reginald A J Warneford and American writer Henry Beach Needham perished when a new aeroplane failed during a test flight at Buc Aerodrome near Paris. Needham, in Europe to cover the war, was accompanying Warneford on the fatal ascent. The exact cause remains unknown as wreckage is tangled and scattered. Warneford had recently gained fame for destroying a Zeppelin raid. Needham, a noted Collier's and McClure's contributor, had been in Paris researching life in the Latin Quarter and reporting on war impact.
