State street from Broad street to Fairfield avenue will be paved with wood block. The Paving and Sewer Commission awarded contracts to Barber Asphalt Co. of Jersey City at 1.80 per yard for block and Van Buren Co. of Brooklyn at 1.25 per yard for foundation labor and material. The project totals about 7,500 feet with about 22,000 square yards paved by city and 11,500 by Connecticut Co. The Barber block has performed well on Congress street. The overall cost per yard is 3.05, versus 3.17 for Barnum avenue. Work may begin soon as sewers near completion and street widening proceeds.
