President drafts Democratic platform in tentative form
Washington June 8 President Wilson virtually completed a draft of the Democratic platform to be submitted to the national convention. State Roads Work Under Inmate Labor In Colebrook
The state highway department is erecting two buildings in Colebrook to house 15 inmates of the Cheshire reformatory who will continue road work from Colebrook Center to the Winchester town line. A probate hearing on Abijah Patterson of Bridgewater saw protest against admitting the will to probate due to alleged undue influence and incompetence, though witnesses affirmed Patterson's sound mind when the document was signed. Judge Addis admitted the will but an appeal to the superior court is planned. Weather forecasts show unsettled conditions with likely showers tonight and Friday across New Haven and Connecticut, with a southern disturbance near Atlantic City and a lake-region disturbance bringing further showers in the west and north.

Fate of Fort Vaux Outpost at Verdun Undecided
Paris June 8 the fate of Fort Vaux a focal point in Verdun for three days remains in suspense per the French war office. Its loss would hurt morale and honor the garrison but critics say its possession offers little benefit to Germany as the fort is a observation post and its capture would not advance Verdun. The German assault faces a strong inner line including Froide Terre and the heights of Souville Tavannes with forts. Vaux lies farthest from the Meuse and is less exposed to French fire, explaining why it was chosen as the critical attack point despite difficult terrain.

Jacoby Boy Unable To Help Coroner In Lumber Pile Fatality
Ferdinand Jacoby seven years old of Carroll avenue could not tell Coroner John J Phelan how the lumber pile fell that crushed Dorothy Morgan six and Herbert Brotz nine on Stratford and Carroll avenues Thursday evening. The Jacoby boy visited the coroner’s office but was dismissed after a few questions as he could not provide necessary details. The children played near the lumber pile by digging sand under it and jumping on it, causing the heavy timber to slide down and trap them. Parents had warned them about the pile and urged them to come away before the timbers fell.
