An eight year old boy falsely confesses under police pressure to theft, leads officers to a buried loot site, and later the missing gold watch is found at the boy’s mother’s home. Investigators confirm the confession was not true and return the child to his mother.
The mayor will urge tighter Fourth of July controls in his annual council message. He favors banning blank cartridge use and restoring 1907 fire safety ordinances, with higher license fees and stronger fire marshal authority. Police would confiscate fireworks rather than arrest violators if needed.

Egan heads toward an executive committee decision in Hartford next Thursday as Prohibition leaders map a campaign. Merrill F. Loucks, former state officer, is said to have staged an investigation in Southington seeking damaging evidence against Egan.
Torrington June 3 Discussing the problem of taxing the oyster industry in Connecticut House Chairman John M Wadhams of the finance committee today stated the committee probably would not make any important changes in the present system of taxation. The 15 mill tax on the value of privately owned oyster beds raised by the shellfish commission may be kept though the oystermen favored a blanket acreage tax or a tax on the product per acre. The committee thought it unwise to tax valuable and worthless oyster property at the same rate per acre or to tax the product directly. The 15 mill assessment might be changed by increasing the rate but this step was not definitely decided upon. The committee would not be ready to re-

Special from United Press. Minneapolis, June 3. Joseph D. Bren, treasurer of the University of Minnesota, was arrested today and charged with embezzling 14000 dollars. He says the money was stolen from him on campus by three men. Authorities say Bren’s story cannot be substantiated.
Pas quale Lorando, 19, lost both legs after being struck by a freight car while attempting to board a New Haven road freight train in the local yards. He was taken to New Haven Hospital where doctors gave slim hopes for recovery.
