Paris July 43 French aviators in a bold operation dropped bombs on Galonne railroad station and Apremoont forest station while enduring a gale. The raid caused extensive destruction with ignited fires, tangled tracks, and damaged structures though kept at high altitude.
London reports perplexed by silence as Saigthen gives way to efforts by Germany Austria Hungary to win Romania to the central powers or neutralize. A Bucharest note promises territorial compensation for arms countering Russia. Russia reportedly wagers on Romania accepting Teutonic terms by entrenching along the frontier. Bulgaria and Turkey stall over compensation from Constantinople and neutrality.
Secretary Lansing said there were no developments in the German situation and he had no word from Washington to report. He noted no definite character of American policy would be revealed before next week when President Wilson is expected in Washington.

Hearing on the remonstrance against Charles Filip of Fairfield was postponed due to the death of County Commissioner John Brophy's wife. The session had included about 40 witnesses and involved Filip seeking to transfer his license to a building opposite Marlborough Terrace.
The United States granted a second citizenship papers to Captain George Auger of Fairfield known as The Cardiff Giant. He stands seven feet four inches tall and weighs 295 pounds. Born in Cardiff Wales in 1881 he sailed to the United States on the Lusitania June 25 1909 and first gained papers in Spokane July 31 1902. He needed Peter Detrich an elevator contractor as a witness to his claim.
New York July 13 The first change in the pants makers strike came when a large firm rehired 300 workers with a $2 weekly raise. Labor leaders say other workers may arbitrate. a broader strike could involve 50,000 garment workers and a Ladies' Garment Workers' Association delegation planned talks with the mayor's council on sanitary shops and restored wage scales.
