A Berkeley teacher arranged showing the appeal to a San Francisco moving picture concern and a hotel housekeeper identified the girl at a local theatre suggesting progress in the case.
Eugene Birmingham, veteran head of the Birmingham police, is in critical condition at his home on Washington avenue after a severe relapse last evening. A priest administered last rites at 2 this morning as his condition worsened despite earlier signs of recovery.

New York July 3 President Lynch of the National League suspended Giants manager John J McGraw and Philadelphia pitcher Brennan for five days after a June 30 game. Brennan is fined 100 dollars. Both players may return July 9 after a personal investigation found they used personalities that sparked the altercation as they left the field.

New Haven July 3 strong probability this morning that Mrs Bessie Wakefield of Bristol and James Plew of Middletown may be brought before the Superior court on bench warrants for alleged murder in the death of William Wakefield. Both prisoners are calm at the county jail after arriving from Bristol and Middletown following Mrs Wakefield's confession of planning to get rid of Wakefield.
The Republican Farmer reprints a fifty year old eyewitness account of Gettysburg on July 3 1863 detailing Bridgeport men in the center assault and defense at Cemetery Hill. Michael Cuddy of the 42nd New York dies heroically while flagging, Armistead and others fall, and Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address later honors the dead.
The steamer Manchester Port bound from Montreal to Manchester docked at St Johns Newfoundland today with coal bunkers afire. Bunkers flooded and the vessel will be able to proceed soon.
Paterson July 3 Patrick Quinlan leader of the Industrial Workers of the World was sentenced today to serve not less than two nor more than seven years in state prison and to pay a $500 fine. He was convicted of inciting riot among striking silk mill workers. Up to 1130 this morning the jury in Elizabeth Gurley Flynn's similar trial reported no agreement.
Horace H. Jackson sold his bookstore at 986 988 Main street to a Western firm. One new proprietor is said to be Mr Chamberlain. The firm has occupied the store, a mercantile landmark for 30 years, after Jackson began as a clerk with James Youngs and later ran the shop. A formal announcement is planned for Saturday.
A morning fire at Jack's Hat Store No 17 Fairfield avenue destroyed and damaged straw hats worth at least 600 dollars. Fire was spotted at 6 45 and controlled quickly, keeping the blaze within the shop. Police and State Policeman J J Flynn questioned owners as investigators probe origin with no definite findings at press time.
Washington July 3 Democrats of the Senate finance committee met to frame the binding caucus resolution and tidy schedules in the tariff bill. The plan includes pledging support for the bill and opposing amendments by those outside the caucus. All Democrats except Randall Thornton and Hitchcock expected to pledge. Marriage licenses issued include Fred Baker and Katherine Eccleston Fred Walker and Agnes Urvan Lewis L Hopkins and May R Cook.
Gettysburg on July 3 saw thousands of veterans parade before dawn in a campsite of 10 000 as governors day featured speeches by state leaders and a handshake between blue and gray at the Pickett s charge site. Union and Confederate veterans pledged peace and pledge to defend the United States while a monument site for Congress was sought and President Wilson planned arrival for Independence Day events.
