Eagles Buy Main Street Property To Erect Home
In Bridgeport the Fraternal Order of Eagles voted to purchase the Wheeler Geers estate at 1682-1593 Main Street for about 25 thousand dollars and build a new club house with a large meeting hall gymnasium baths and sleeping rooms. Some members favored remodeling the Madison Avenue hall but the motion passed unanimously. The current Eagles hall, once Madison Hall, was bought in 1805 with mortgage cleared in 1907 and has since provided revenue from renting the big dance hall. The plan calls for retaining the present building for rentals and initiations while the new club house is erected for member use.
