Open air mass opens Catholic Sioux congress in North Dakota
Unusual and impressive features marked the solemn high mass at the opening of the Catholic Sioux congress of North Dakota celebrated by Rev. Albert Negahnquet, the sole full blood Indian priest. The ceremony, held before a sky vaulted altar, drew many Catholic Sioux Indians encamped at St. Michael's and spotlighted the tradition of early mission shrines. Rev. William H. Ketcham of the Catholic Indian Missions joined the rites. Negahnquet works among Chippewas in Minnesota.
