Bridgeport Leaders Back Minority Public Utilities Vote
The Bridgeport representatives Clark and Bartlett voted to substitute the minority report on the public utilities question, reflecting strong local support. Senators Arnold and Manwaring also aligned similarly, while a national tariff shift toward Payne tariff raises duties. President Taft’s push for revision downward is debated as the bill becomes law. The Middle West critics view it unsatisfactory, yet industrial revival may proceed with clearer duties, and the public faces higher living costs.
