Bridgeport City Faces State Tax Debt For 1913
The State Tax assessed against Bridgeport this year will not be paid until 1914 when taxes for both years may be settled. The levy is two mills on the grand list totaling 107 300 dollars. Mayor Wilson learned of the due tax with no appropriation to pay it now. The Board of Apportionment and Taxation anticipated the bill but had no final amount. City Auditor Keating predicts next year’s tax at one mill plus a fractional part and with this year’s due total about 220 000 dollars. They may fund it at a special session by a one mill levy, but such action is not advised. There will be no interest penalty and payment could occur with next year’s tax.
